Student scholarships
A student scholarship in simple terms is an award provided to the students for accessing an educational institution, for further studies. These scholarships can be in the form of financial aid, concession in tuition fees of the institution or any other means. These scholarships are the most common means for the promotion of students with good merits and educational background to continue their studies further. Student scholarships come very handy for students having limited means for the payments of the educational expenses.
The awarding of Student scholarships depends upon many factors and criterions. Some of the criterions are based upon the purpose of the founder or the donor of the award.
Organizations offering Student scholarships:
There are many organizations offering scholarships to the students. Some of the most popular ones are:
Non-profit organizations: These organizations operate for the welfare of the people. There are several forms of scholarships provided to the students by these non-profit organizations. Mostly, several people who come together for the betterment of the society and its people at large back up these organizations.
Labor unions: Almost all the labor unions provide student scholarships to its members and their children.
Chamber of commerce: Most of the chambers of commerce provide the students with Student scholarships. Chamber of commerce is the best place for availing scholarships by the students related with public and business services.
Universities: Some of the well-established universities with adequate funds at disposal often provide student scholarships. However, availing these scholarships can be a real problem at times for the average students. The universities keep looking for students with special talents and good educational background who are provided with scholarships.
Volunteer organizations: Many organizations grant scholarships to those students who are studying something that is related with that organization. Although, the number of organizations coming up with scholarships are quite few.
Types of Student scholarships:
There are various forms of scholarships granted to the students depending upon things like, merit, need, ethnicity etc.
Merit:Merit based student scholarships are the most commonly found scholarship. This form of scholarship is granted to the students having academic, athletic, artistic or some other special talent. The amount of funds provided to the students might be negligible and may be aiming at motivating the students. However, there are also scholarships that provide the students who even need large amount.
Ethnicity based: This form of student scholarships is provided to the students who come from a specific background. This background may be race, nationality or the religion of the student. After considering the ethnicity of the student, there are some other things as well which have to be taken care of before considering the applicant.
Need based: These student scholarships are provided to those who are needy and require financial help. Usually this type of scholarship is provided to the student for covering up a little part of the educational expense. Most of the times, even this form of scholarship also requires the applicant to possess special talents and aptitude.
