Florida real estate license requirement

For becoming a real estate professional in state of Florida in United States, a person needs to fulfill some requirements for getting necessary license. These requirements can be divided broadly into requirements for real estate sales associate and requirements for real estate broker. Apart from specific requirements for these two, there are some general requirements that have to be fulfilled.

First of all, an applicant should be over the age of 18 years. Similarly, applicant mush also hold at least high school diploma. Before we discuss specific requirements, it should be understood here that all members of Florida Bar that have good standing are exempt from getting real estate education for getting license as real estate sales associate. However, such candidate must be otherwise qualified under the real estate license law of the state.

For becoming a real estate sales associate, apart from general requirements, applicant should have successfully completed the FREC or Florida Real Estate Commission approved pre-licensing course. This real estate course consists of 63 hours of education and should cover all the topics as prescribed by the commission. This education can be online or regular class room based education. If any person is physical disable, he is permitted to get required education by means of correspondence pre-licensing courses offered by various real estate schools in the state.

Application for the real estate sales associate examination must be submitted along with fee and electronic fingerprints. Last but not the least, applicant must pass the real estate sales associate examination with at least 75 marks out of 100. For activating the license, it is required that applicant submits the RE-2050 form to DRE or Division of Real Estate.

As far as requirements for real estate broker in concerned, apart from general requirements mentioned above, applicant should have completed 12 months of real estate experience as a real estate sales associate. Time period allowed for such an experience is 5 years. If any real estate sales associate has required real estate experience in another state, he can also apply for the real estate broker license in Florida if he has worked as an active real estate sales associate for 12 months in the preceding 5 years period. If any person is having real estate broker license of some other state and has worked as broker for at least 12 months in preceding 5 years, he is also eligible to apply for the Florida real estate broker license.

In above cases, it is required that applicant attaches with the application form certification of real estate license history issued by the licensing agency of particular state jurisdiction. Real estate license in other state must have been obtained by complaint the necessary education and various examination requirements. Another requirement for becoming real estate broker in Florida is that applicant should successfully complete the pre-licensing course for real estate brokers as prescribed by the FREC. Such course consists of 72-hours real estate education covering all the FREC prescribed topics. Such education must be obtained from a FREC approved real estate school. FREC allow physically disable people to get required education by means of correspondence pre-licensing real estate courses.
