Stock symbol
A Stock is a share of a particular organization and if somebody owns a stock of a particular company, then he can be called as a shareholder of that particular organization. The Stocks are provided either as a certificate or in Electronic Format. These days the Stocks are issued in Electronic Format so that maintainability and Transactions are easier.
Stock Exchanges:
Stock Exchanges are organizations, that enable the stocks of various organizations to be listed in the Stock Exchange for buying and selling. The investors, traders and promoters can buy or sell a particular stock in the Stock Exchange. The Stock Exchange will record all such Transactions.
Stock Symbols:
In a Stock Exchange there will thousands of companies who will be registered and their shares will be traded. As the number of company's stocks increases in a the Stock Exchange, identifying and tracking of each stock will become a difficult task by itself. In view of this difficulty and to overcome this, Stock exchanges assigns a unique symbol to a particular Stock of a company. Each stock will be identified by the Stock Symbol in a Stock Exchange.
Advantages of Stock Symbols:
There are significant Advantages in assigning a Symbol to each Stock. This will help the Stock Exchange to have a uniform tracking for each share so that all the information that are being generated in the Stock Exchange with respect to a particular stock is recorded in that unique symbol. This will help to retrieve the information of a particular stock in a easier manner. This will also help the investor to minimize the error in choosing a stock for investment of for Trading purpose. The investors will be able to uniquely identify the stock of their interest without any error. At present all the stock exchanges are storing the information in electronic format and a strong database and application software is required for that purpose. The creation of application software and database will be an easier task, if each stock is identified by a Stock Symbol.
