Joomla Random Flash Module

This module allows you to randomize a number of flash files. Each time your page is reloaded, a random file will be displayed.

flash

This module is once again, straight forward, simple and self-explanatory. Just install, rename your files to 1.swf, 2.swf, 3.swf etc for all the random files that you want to publish, enter the path to the flash files, enter the number of flash files, and other parameters, and you are up and running.

ive followed ur instruction on how to use your Joomla Random Flash Module but it its not working. can u send me the whole step by step process on how to do it.

thanks.
DART Creations - Instructions IP:217.145.5.18 | 2007-06-22 01:41:17
Leo:

Step 1. Rename your flash files to 1.swf, 2.swf, 3.swf etc. It is very important to rename them to just a number.swf and order is after each other i.e. 1,2,3,4

Step 2. Upload your flash files to images/stories or any other path that you choose. You can do this using Joomla Media Manager or using FTP or anything else. Take note of the path example images/stories

Step 3. In the module parameters enter the following options:

Number of files - this is the number of flash files you have uploaded e.g. 4
Flash Base - the path where you have put the files (e.g. images/stories)

Width / Height - define the width and height of the files. The original files should be the same size, so that you don't have problems when displaying the module.

Choose to publish the module and save.

I have received a number of emails regarding people who have used it successfully. Usually any problem that might happen is with the path. To debug check your page source and ensure that the path is correct e.g. images/stories/1.swf

To be sure that the path is correct you should go to http://www.yoursite.com/images/stories/1.swf and check that the file is visible. If not that you either uploaded the files to a wrong place, or not named them correctly.

If you still have a problem, comment again, with the version of Joomla you are using and a link to your website.

Mark Fenley - Can't get it to work in the h IP:76.97.68.180 | 2007-09-27 15:02:03
It works when I select other module positions (Banner, Newsflash) but when header is selected, nothing. Is there something special I need to do to get it to work in the header position? I am using joomla version 1.0.12. Thanks in advanced..
DART Creations - Header IP:85.232.195.229 | 2007-09-27 22:52:38
Mark, this is not a problem with the module, but a problem with the template. Your template probably does not have the header position defined, and thus the module won't display there. Please read the following article to understand what I am saying:
http://www.dart-creations.com/joomla/tutorials/understanding-joomla-template-positions.html

Koos - link in the same window IP:85.145.200.47 | 2007-10-23 10:56:19
Hi ,

How can I make the link open in the same window? Now the link opens in a new window. I have found 2 files:

1) mod_randomflash.php
2) mod_randomflash.xml

Where exactly do I adjust the target?
Please, see our flashbanner on www.baj.nu

Thanks,
Koos (Holland).
DART Creations - Link in new window IP:85.232.194.192 | 2007-10-23 11:50:23
Koos, please note that the module DOES NOT support linking, therefore your link is not coming from our component but from the flash banner that you have. Please get in touch with the person who has created the flash banner for you and instruct them that you do not want the link to open in a new window.

Hope this helps, if not please send us an email using the Contact Us page.
librarc - great script IP:190.58.41.124 | 2007-10-27 07:03:10
Excellent script! Question though, my flash is positinoned to the right of a menu that has sub category menus. The problem is when the flash is shown, the sub cat menus show behind the flash as seen here: http://208.109.191.81//index.php

this may not have anything to do with you per say but I was wondering if you know a solution for this??

kcnon - more than one? IP:125.24.180.92 | 2007-11-08 19:55:41
It's a nice job. But,could you make it show more than one swf-files at a time?
This should be very great.
Thanks
DART Creations - More than one IP:85.232.198.118 | 2007-11-21 15:18:45
Why don't your create a new template position where you require the second flash, and then use a second copy of the module to display additional flash files where you require.

DART Creations - Joomla 1.5 IP:217.145.5.18 | 2008-04-09 00:00:29
The module has still not been converted to 1.5, however if you could get in touch via the Contact form, i would take a look and see what might be happening.
lowjoy - not displaying Registered | 2008-04-11 15:12:19
I installed it and it ran great with a 468x60. decided I needed a rectangle so I changed it to 300x250, made 2 300x250 swf's 11.swf and 12.swf, created a new folder: images/stories/flash,uploaded the files, put this path in the module,
set # to 2, set mod name to show. I see the shape of the module has changed, the name but no images. I checked the path and the images show up. My site is http://localroost.com.
WHAT AM I MISSING?
DART Creations - not displaying IP:85.232.196.5 | 2008-04-12 00:46:16
lowjoy, you just need to rename the swf to 1.swf and 2.swf, rather than 11.swf and 12.swf, because the module is look for 1.swf and 2.swf.
stasss - works in firefox but no in EXP Registered | 2008-05-13 02:39:26

stass,

I've takea look but can't figure out what's wrong. Everything seems ok.

Can you try creating another flash file and see if it works with more than 1 file?
stasss - IE problem Registered | 2008-05-13 04:16:49
i have tried with two files..that are unique...1.swf and 2.swf and i have set the module to 2 files...it`s still the same...

have tried Opera also...it works perfect..the only problem is IE!

Could it be the swf file Itself the problem?
DART Creations - IE Problem IP:217.145.5.18 | 2008-05-13 04:59:08
I would think that if the problem was the file, it wouldn't work on the frontpage either though.

Are there any modules / components which are different on the frontpage than the pages where the banner is not displayed. They may be interfering ...
stasss - IE problem Registered | 2008-05-13 05:24:35
no... all modules and components are on all pages turned on except on NAŠE ZNAMKE, but there is no module anyway...

but i noticed something now.. i have sublevel items on NAVODILA and on PONUDBA but not on POGOJI POSLOVANJA, and there the flash modul works in IE!

so what do sublevel menu items have to do with this?

or is it the JOOMSEF? i had to turn off all Itemid setting for sublevel menu to work, but IE had problems even before that...

any idea?
thanks
DART Creations - IE Problem IP:217.145.5.18 | 2008-05-13 06:48:20
Well, then there must be something in the other (non sub level pages) which is different. Best is to compare the pages (HTML generated), between the areas where it works, and the areas where it doesn't.

Switching off JoomSEF temporarily might also help you to determine whether it is the one causing the problem.
stasss - IE problem Registered | 2008-05-13 09:11:29
I have turned off JoomSEF and ther is no change,
i have looked at the html code from the page that works and the one that doesn`t but the part where the flash is generated is the same...

troniksoft - Very nice module IP:81.80.75.33 | 2008-06-25 06:56:19
Very nice module but just one thing : just a problem with menus in CSS wich appears behind flash animations.
I try to modify module by adding a "" but it doesn't (I think I would have to add a "position:absolute" in css file but it will looks bad with my template...)
Is there any solution for that ?
troniksoft - I have the solution IP:81.80.75.33 | 2008-06-25 07:04:09
To resolve probelm with flash and menu css, you just have to add :
-
- in "object", wmode="transparent"
- in "embed", wmode="transparent"
