Glass Ornaments are generally used to decorate the Christmas Tree in the United States. A wide variety of them are available in the stores which are used are decoration items. The tradition of hanging glass ornaments on the Christmas Tree began in Germany and thus spread to the States. Now the tradition is being followed every Christmas. Let us what are glass ornaments and how this tradition evolved.
What is Glass?
Glass is produced when lightening strikes and fuses sand into slender tubes called fulgurites. The lightening which strikes is called petrified lightening.
History of Glass Ornament Making
The glass made through this process is blown by mouth into ornaments. The craft of blowing Christmas ornaments dates back to 1500s. It began as a cottage industry in Lauscha, East Germany. In 1860s these glass ornaments were used for decorating the Christmas Tree in Germany.
The Thuringian glass blowers were famous in the making of glass ornaments till the beginning of World War II. After World War II the center for making glass ornaments shifted to Neudastcht in West Germany. The Muller-Blech family were famous in making glass ornaments in Germany, due to the Russian invasion of Germany they immigrated to West German village> of Neudastcht Germany to Neusdatcht by using various techniques.
The Muller-Blech Family and the Eichhorn family were the only ones to produce glass ornaments in Germany. In 1992s Klaus Muller-Blech and Birgit Eichhorn Jeremias-Sohn met a convention of glass ornaments, fell in love and got married. Thus the combination of the two gave way to the forming of a new company called Inge-Glas workshops. The recipe for making the moulds were lost long back, recently the recipe was re-discovered and therefore Inge company is the only one to reproduce the old molds once again gaining worldwide popularity in Glass ornaments.
Types of Glass Ornaments
The glass ornaments used for decorating the Christmas tress in United States are listed below:
Butterfly
