According to the laws in Chicago, Illinois a person who wishes to obtain a real estate license is required to complete a pre-license education, clear a test and then file for the license application along with the required fees. The pre-license educational requirements should be completed from an accredited real estate school. In case you haven't completed the course then you can do so when you take the exam or apply for being an agent. You get almost 18 months to complete the course and submit the certificates. However, you would have to pay an additional fee.
Exemption from pre-license educational requirements
People who are exempt from pre-license educational requirements are the licensed attorneys functioning in the area of real estate and people who qualify depending upon the Reciprocity with another State. At present Illinois has reciprocity with the states of Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Obtaining the real estate license
Once that you have passed the Illinois real estate exam then you can apply for the real estate license from the Dept. of Financial and Professional Regulation. In case you fail to pass the exam then you have three attempts to pass the exam. If you are unable to clear it in three attempts then you would have to take the pre-license education again and then redo the exam.
In Chicago, Illinois you are required to renew your license every two years. This can be done from the Dept. of Financial and Professional Regulation.
