Decoration ideas for kids room
While decorating kids room, one has to keep aside the formula of "Think Big" and adopt the way of "Thinking little", which means thinking like little people . You may want to apply your own ideas of decoration in your kids room, but one should actually think as if one is a child and then try to imagine what he would like or dislike . You should not decorate the room with what you think is nice, but with what your child finds nice .

That is how the kids learn and that is exactly how the decoration of their room should be planned and executed .
The initial step should be of deciding the colors for the room; first for the furniture, then walls, and ceiling. Though the primary colors viz. Red, Yellow and Blue are supposed to be liked by children, every child may not find them equally attractive . Usually shades of Blue and Green go well with boys room . Pink and grey or lemon yellow with ivory are combinations suitable for girls .
Once the colors are decided, the furniture layout must be finalized. Bunk beds must be avoided for children of the age group 3-6 as there is danger of falling down . Single bed with under storage is advisable. Wardrobe of at least 3 Ft. width is necessary for everyone. The internal shelf heights can be lesser than that used for adults, but the number of shelves and drawers should be more ; since the sizes of clothes are small, while the number of clothes is big . Additional cupboards or a chest of drawers is very helpful for stacking toys . A study table must be provided, even if the child does not go to school, since it inculcates the study habits like reading, drawing etc .
Once the furniture items and the layout are finalized, the treatment to walls should be decided . Painting is the most common thing, but other alternatives are also available like wallpaper etc. Many interesting prints are available in wallpapers, along with borders and special squares etc . Textured painting is another exciting option. It not only enhances the look of the room, but also introduces the world of skin feels and textures to the child. A soft board at the study table is helpful for school going children . While, a simple blackboard fixed to half of the wall enables toddlers to draw and write without hesitation . The only care to be taken is that it should be fixed at the lowest level possible . After walls, ceiling should be taken care of. The ceiling is that plane of the room which the child stares at for hours together . It may be painted with sky effect or rainbow effect etc.
After the furniture and painting are done with, furnishings come into the picture. Two layer curtains are always advisable since they provide better control of light coming from windows . There is a wide variety of nursery prints, as well animated, floral prints available in curtains . Again, boys like bold and robust pictures ; girls prefer soft, delicate designs. Same applies to seating and bed covers also . While selecting the upholstery, same color scheme of furniture should be avoided . They should only be accentuated.
Add-ons
Fancy wall clocks, animated bed lamps and various type of wind chimes and wall hangings matching to the room theme are the other add-ons that enhance friendly ambience of a kids room .
