Decorative birdhouses
A birdhouse is an arrangement made for the birds to settle down. It is like a readymade nest given to them. It usually has the main body that has minimum 2 and maximum 5-6 internal chambers . These provide arrangement for different types of birds to settle in . Each chamber has a door that allows entry and exit. Extending from the hole is a little platform for the birds to rest upon . A birdhouse also has a small birdbath or at least a small bowl to fill in water which they use for drinking as well as bathing .
A shelter for all
Birdhouses come in all shapes and sizes. It should be decided first as to where the birdhouse is going to be placed . If it is going to be hung on a post or on a fence, a small size is advisable. A medium sized birdhouse can be placed on a stand or simply on a cut out trunk. A large sized birdhouse looks good standing on its own in a corner of the garden.
Once the size is decided, the shape can be finalized. If there are small children at home, their choice should be respected, as they are the ones who will be spending the maximum time with playing in the garden. If children are not present, then the opinion of other family members should be taken into consideration and the shape that suits everyone should be bought. A castle, a church, a prison, Noah\'s Arc, a ship, a boat etc. is the usual shapes that look well. Unusual shapes like a spaceship, a hat, a shoe, a jar, a wine bottle add make the garden look exciting. Animal or insect shapes like a rooster, a dragonfly, a butterfly, a giraffe etc. bring life to the garden and create a playful atmosphere .
Choosing the material according to your own needs is very important as the bird house is going to be in the garden and will have to stand all weathers. A wooden birdhouse looks most pretty. It looks like a part of the garden, but at the same time, is difficult to maintain and most of the times, the wood decays after 1 or 2 years . A plastic birdhouse is best for maintenance, but may look very artificial and out of place. Acrylic birdhouses may be called as the best option, since they are easy to clean and also can be painted or colored .
A colorful birdhouse looks attractive, but earthen colors like Sienna etc . give the most pleasant appearance. Deep Greens, if co-coordinated with the fence or garden furniture, add vigor to the surroundings. The same color of the one given to the windows and doors opening into the garden also makes for a cozy picture. Radically varying color or stark contrast from the colors of the house or garden must be avoided, as it will only make the birdhouse out of place. The maximum the detailing, the more it enhances the appearance of the birdhouse.
Bringing home birds
A well looked after i.e. well cleaned and well kept birdhouse brings the birds home and makes them stay for a long period of time. This adds the life and chirp to the entire house, never allowing a dull moment.
