Valentines day poems

Let us first understand what the word Valentine means & what the word poem means. Valentines day which is celebrated worldwide on 14th February on account of Saint Valentine. A day on which special greetings cards (valentine cards) are sent, usually anonymously, to a person or people to whom one feels attracted. The saint apparently commemorated on this day was an obscure 3rd-c Roman priest, and none of the customs connected with 14 February have anything to do with him. He was a Roman Christian who according to tradition was martyred during the discrimination of Christians by Emperor Claudius II. Saint Valentine's Day was primarily celebrated in his honor, but was also inspired by another martyr named Valentine, who was bishop of Terni, a region in central Italy. There is a traditional English belief that birds choose their mates on this day.

Lovers and the greeting card industry may have to thank Geoffrey Chaucer for the this day that warms one of the coldest month. Although reference books are filled with mentions of Roman festivals from which Valentine's Day may derive, that Chaucer was probably the first to link the saint's day with the custom of choosing sweethearts. The fullest and perhaps original account of the Valentine's Day tradition occurs in Chaucer's Parlement of Foules, composed around 1380, which takes place "on Seynt Valentynes day,/Whan every foul cometh there to chese [choose] his make [mate]." Now let us understand what we mean by Poem:

A verbal composition designed to convey experiences, ideas, or emotions in a vivid and imaginative way, characterized by the use of language chosen for its sound and suggestive power and by the use of literary techniques such as meter, metaphor, and rhyme. A composition in verse rather than in prose. A literary composition written with a passion or beauty of language more features of poetry than of prose. A creation, object, or experience having beauty suggestive of poetry. Therefore in literary context what we mean by Valentines Poems is that a composition in

verse for someone most cherished. In simple words these are poems which speak about the relationship of love. Valentine is an universal celebration of love.
