Checklist at the Rental Agency
SAFETY FIRST! Make a thorough check of the driving system of the motor home, especially the brakes and lights. Find out the exact locations of all power points and understand how to use the air conditioner, the heater, and hot water gadgets. Check that the gas cylinders are properly installed and the regulators properly attached.
It is highly advisable to take a driving lesson from the agency, whether or not you are driving a motor home for the first time. That way, you will understand better how everything works and won?t get some nasty surprises on your actual trip.
You absolutely must have a driving license, and some States require a special license specifically for driving a motor home. You will also need to give proof of your age. Some States (and abroad, too) you may need to undergo a medical test if you are in the senior age group.
Find out the location point where you need to pick up the motor home. If it is not within reasonable distance of your home, ask about transport facilities to that point.
Check the motor home thoroughly for water seepage.
If you wish to take along your kids bicycles, find out if there is sufficient storage space.

Sign the rental agreement only after you have properly understood all the policies and read the add-ons at the bottom. Don?t sign if you have any doubts. Insist on a copy of the agreement after you have signed and keep this safely at home. Keep a second copy of the agreement with you and the contact numbers of the agency at all times during your trip. Also, there could be a worst-case scenario where you have got lost in a lonely and unknown terrain. When you don?t turn up on your planned return date, at least somebody will know roughly where you had ventured and send out search parties.
Look up the climatic conditions for the region you will be visiting.
It is better to make a reservation 2-3 weeks in advance of your trip, to avoid the disappointment of being told that a motor home is not available due to full bookings.
Renting a motor home during the peak months of spring and summer could cost you more.
Ask for discounts during off seasons and if renting more than one motor home for a large group even during the peak season.
Keep a detailed map with campsites in the area you are visiting clearly marked.
If possible, reserve a parking space at a campsite for your motor home in advance.
Take along a camping mat if there is limited space in the motor home and you cannot take along folding chairs.
If the motor home has an awning, learn how to roll and unroll it easily and quickly.
Make sure that the water tanks are full this is often overlooked, in the hurry to get on the road quickly!
Carry a first-aid kit, a compass and a couple of torches with extra batteries, soap bars, towels, mosquito repellents, and sunscreen lotions. If traveling in the winter season, make sure you have sufficient warm clothing.
