Easter Gift basket

Easter is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Christians. It is celebrated in all parts of the world in Christian communities. Easter is a festival in which people recollect the painful death and rebirth of Jesus Christ. Easter is a wonderful enjoyable festival for all man kind. Jesus shed his blood on the cross for all the sins of mankind and rose up on the third day gaining victory over death.

Jesus is the Son of God, the father. He is a God of Trinity (i.e. God the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit). Jesus was born to Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. He came to this earth to spread the Gospel. People started sinning due to the temptations of Satan. So, they used to give an unblemished lamb or a calf as a sacrifice to cleanse all their sins. Owing to the temptations of Satan, people started forgetting God and worshipped hand made idols. God did not punish the people but he loved them so much that he sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to this earth to die for all the sins of man.

Jesus came to this earth, lived a holy life, showing the people the way to lead their life. Jesus was then given into the hands of the persecutors to be punished for all the sins of man. All the evil doers stripped, insulted and mocked Jesus. Jesus was made to carry his cross up the mountain of Calvary and then he was nailed to the cross. Jesus was nailed to the cross and was crowned with a wreath of thorns. One of the Roman soldiers pierced a spear into the ribs of Jesus to find out if he was alive. Thus, Jesus shed every single drop of his blood to cleanse the sins of the entire world. Jesus said in one of his sermons that the son of God was going to be handed over to the persecutors who will kill him and then the son of God will rise up from death on the third day. In the same way, Jesus came back to life on the third day i.e. on Easter and appeared to his disciples and Mary in different places and situations and then reached Heaven. So, people celebrate Easter as the most holy day that Jesus died for them and rose on the third day winning over death.

Day and Name of Easter

Easter is derived from a German tribal word, Eastre, which was the name of the goddess of the Saxons. In 2nd century, the Christian missionaries visited the tribal area to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. They accepted Jesus as their savior. These Tribal people used to celebrate a pagan festival, welcoming the spring and worshipping their goddess Eastre. After their conversion to Christianity, the missionaries found out that the day that the tribes celebrated the pagan festival, falls on the same day that Jesus rose from his death. So, the missionaries advised them to celebrate the festival as Easter in remembrance of the death and resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ. So, from that day, the name Easter was in use.

The date of Easter changes every year, based upon the ecclesiastical full moon that varies every year. According to the scripture and records, the night Jesus was arrested was the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover festival with his disciples before being arrested. The Passover festival is celebrated based upon this full moon. So, based upon these calculations, Easter is likely to fall between 22nd of March and 29th of April.
