Easter cake

There are two important festivals celebrated by Christians. Easter is one. It is in remembrance of resurrection of Jesus Christ who died on the cross and rose on the third day. Jesus, Son of God, born in this world as Savior, lived in this world as a man. He performed many miracles: many blind could see, lame could walk and lepers were healed. He came to this world to fulfill the desire of his heavenly father and spread the gospel. He was persecuted and died on the cross. He rose on the third day. This day, when Jesus rose from the dead is known as Easter. On the eve of Easter, Christians all round the world celebrate Easter as a very special occasion. There is another festival for Christians, which is equally important to them as Easter. It is the festival of Christmas. Only on these two occasions, Christians will be very jubilant.

History

According to the Bible (New Testament) Christ, Son of God was born in a small town in Bethlehem in a small manger. Joseph and Mary were his parents. Mary conceived him through the power of Holy Spirit. After Jesus was born, he grew up in Nazareth. He started his work when he attained the age of thirty. Baptist John baptized him in the River of Jordan. After his baptism, Jesus went into the wilderness, prayed to his heavenly father continuously, day and night for more than thirty-nine days. After finishing his fasting, he came out of the wilderness. Then Satan tempted him. There he had a glorious victory over Satan’s temptation.

After overcoming all the temptations and trials, Jesus started his ministry according to the will of his father. The first miracle, which Jesus performed, was turning water into wine in a marriage in Cana of Galilee. He was called as a prophet. He used to travel to many places to spread his doctrines. He was also known as a good philosopher. He preached about God’s everlasting Kingdom. His preaching spread all over the world. Many came to see him and attained salvation. He even roused many from the dead. He cast out many evil spirits from people who were possessed. He walked on water. He made one of his disciples, Peter walk on the water. He had appointed twelve men as his disciples. Among them, some were fishermen of Galilee.

Jesus was living along with people and doing his ministry among them. One of the best saying from the Bible is love Thy neighbor as thou love thyself. He used to compare the Kingdom of God with parables to make every one understand his teachings easily. He taught about real heavenly and divine love. He lived as a model to all his followers. He loved sinners and forgave them. He hated sin. Most of his teaching was about divine love, loving kindness, tender mercies. His best teaching was the sermon, which he proclaimed on the mountain. Another best doctrine of Jesus Christ was to forgive someone seventy-seven multiplied by seven times. This means that a man has to forgive his neighbor as many times as he could. He was against the principles of synagogues and Pharisees. These people were very traditional.

These teachings of Jesus Christ affected the business of Pharisees and synagogues.

They plotted to kill Jesus saying that he was blaspheming about the Kingdom of God. They used to attend all his sermons in order to find fault. They chose Judas, one of Jesus Christ’s disciples for this plot and bribed him to betray Jesus to the Roman soldiers. Judas did as he was told. Judas was paid about thirty silver dollars to betray Jesus.

Crucification

Jesus was arrested and sent for trial more than seven times before many Emperors and Kings. Many rose against Jesus. There were many false witnesses against Jesus. Finally Jesus was surrendered for persecution. He was charged, abused and beaten up. Later, they laid a cross on his shoulders and made Jesus walk up the mount of Golgotha, where he was crucified on the cross and finally died. As he foretold in his sermon, he rose from the dead on the third day. He appeared in front of many people for more than forty days and he ascended towards His Heavenly Father’s Kingdom.

Easter

Jesus was crucified, died and rose from the dead. This day is called as Easter day. Usually Easter day falls on a Sunday, which falls after a full moon day. Usually this day falls in the middle of March. On these days, more people fast for many days. The event of resurrection of Jesus gave salvation to this world. This is a joyous occasion for all Christians. Hence they make merry and enjoy these occasions. Easter is an English word derived from the German language. In Germany, this day was called as Ostem. They used to worship a God named Eostre, the God of Anglo’s. This is also known in Latin as alibis, which mean dawn.
