Easter is celebrated meditating on the suffering of Jesus on the cross of Calvary for the sake of all man kind. Jesus is the only son of Father, the God. As the world was filled with sin by the temptation of Satan, God sent his only begotten son, Jesus to this earth to teach the mankind the truth. He died for all their sins and he was resurrected. Jesus was born to Virgin Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit (The 3rd in Trinity God). Jesus came to this sinful world in the form of a baby boy to know all the difficulties and temptations faced by man, to give solutions to overcome them and live a worthy and truthful life.
All his teachings were in parables and illustrations so that all the people could understand his teachings. Jesus performed many miracles on this earth, proclaiming that he is the Son of God. Jesus lived for thirty three and a half years in this world, teaching the people. He was given into the hands of his persecutors. He was bruised, insulted, beaten and crowned with a wreath of thorns, to cleanse all the sins of mankind by his precious blood. The blood in his heart was also spilled by the spear poked through his ribs by a soldier to confirm the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus shed every drop of his blood for the sins of mankind. Jesus died on a Friday. This day is called as ‘Good Friday’. Jesus told in his sermon that son of god is going to be given into the hands of the sinful people. He said that he would die but, he will rise on the third day. According to his words, Jesus rose from his tomb on the third day i.e. on Sunday which is called as a holy day. This was later named as ‘Easter’. People celebrated Easter enjoying the rebirth of Jesus and his victory over death.
Name and date of Easter
Easter festival was named so in the 2nd century. The missionaries once went to preach the gospel about Jesus to the northern tribal part of Germany. They met the Saxon people who were enjoying their pagan festival welcoming the spring and worshipping their goddess Eastre. These missionaries spread the gospel and many of the tribal people accepted Jesus as their savior. These tribal people, who were accustomed to celebrate the pagan festival, were advised by the missionaries to celebrate it as Easter in memory of the re-birth of Lord Jesus Christ. They came to know that the day on which the pagan festival was celebrated was the same day that Jesus rose up breaking the pangs of death. Thus, the name Easter came into traditional existence.
The date of Easter dresses changes every year. This is because of the ecclesiastical full moon that occurs at the start of spring every year. This full moon‘s formation varies every year. It was observed that the night when Jesus was arrested was the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover festival with his disciples. The Passover festival is based on this full moon. According to these calculations, Easter festival arrives on the Sunday next to the full moon formation and may fall between March 22nd and April 29th every year.
