Easter holidays
There are two important festivals in a Christians life, Easter and Christmas. Christians are the followers of Lord Jesus Christ. The festivals they celebrate are Christmas and Easter based on the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus was born in this world as a small baby boy. That day is celebrated as Christmas. Jesus, after living on this earth for thirty three and a half years died on the cross to cleanse every human from all their sins. He rose from the grave on the third day of his death. The day when Jesus was resurrected has always been celebrated as Easter from ancient times.
In olden days, people used to give sacrifices of unblemished lamb or a calf. This is done so that their sins will be cleansed. They place their hand on the lamb and lay all their sins on it and then kill the lamb so that God will accept the sacrifice and cleanse all their sins. As people forgot the Real God and started worshipping man made idols, committing many sins, God loved them and sent his only son, Jesus, to die as a lamb for all their sins. He did not get angry with the people for their sins. Instead, God forgave them for he was very loving, gracious and slow to anger.
Jesus, as a baby, came to this earth to go through all the difficulties of man and show them the right and truthful way to live on this earth. He lived a very holy life. So, he as an unblemished lamb had to die for all the sins of mankind. As Jesus died for all the sins of the world, now people, instead of giving sacrifices, can just believe in Jesus as his/her personal savior and follow him. All their sins will be cleansed by the blood of Jesus that is shed for every one on the cross of Calvary. Jesus after his death on a Friday (well known as Good Friday) rose from his grave on the third day, Sunday. This day is called as Easter. Jesus broke the clutches of death and rose from his grave. So, Easter holidays is celebrated in all parts of the world by the Christians.
Easter Period
This festival was named Easter, based on an historical occurrence that happened in the 2nd century. In the 2nd century, the Christian missionaries visited the northern part of Germany and met tribes (Saxons) of that area. They told the tribes about Jesus, his preaching and the Gospel. Some of the tribes accepted Jesus as their personal savior. These tribal people celebrated a pagan festival welcoming the spring. They worshipped their goddess Eastre. The missionaries found that the day in which they celebrate the pagan festival is the same day that Jesus was resurrected. So, for the sake of those people who do not want to celebrate and worship goddess Eastre, the missionaries advised the followers of Jesus in the tribes, to celebrate the Easter holidays, in the memory of resurrection of Jesus.
The date of Easter varies from year to year. The date of Easter depends on the ecclesiastical full moon day. When this full moon occurs, the next Sunday will be Easter. This was calculated based upon the Passover festival. According to the Scripture, the day before Jesus was arrested; he celebrated the Passover festival with all his disciples. So, according to that calculation, the date of Easter is fixed. Generally Easter will be celebrated between 22nd March and 29th April.
