Easter poem

It is indeed a revelation to begin with the similarity between Easter and a poem! Yes there is! Such astounding similarity that leaves me elated! You may wonder what has Easter got in common with a poem. Well, the answer is simple and yet astounding: Both are concerned with Resurrection! Easter is the festival of Christians who celebrate the resurrection of their Lord Jesus Christ, who came down to Earth, suffered on the cross, died and on the third day after death, rose again. Such a miracle of resurrection the belief in Life after Death, calls for celebration. It is about the Liberation of the Soul from the flesh into the spirit that is eternal. The Poem is like a resurrection for a Poem brings back to life things that are dead, useless or forgotten. The Easter Poem is as eternal for only does a Poem live forever, even its author does, timelessly, down the ages, recreated now and ever.

About easter

Easter is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the belief that there is Life after Death. In a strange way does Christianity also connect to the other religions in the belief that a soul is eternal and lives on forever! Easter, a festival as popular yet more potent with meaning, is celebration with great pomp and revelry every year, around the world. Its day of celebration, which is always a blessed Sunday, may fall in March or April, depending on the Holy calendar, that is astronomically charted. Before Easter, there is the period of Lent which is the fasting period, similar to the 40-day fasting of the Muslims. Catalyzing Easter is the Holy Week that begins with Spy Wednesday, Mourn-day Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and finally Easter Sunday. Spy Wednesday is named so, because it is when one of Jesus disciples, betrayed his Master for thirty pieces of silver to the Romans. Maundy Thursday is so named because Jesus was questioned, mocked at, tortured, thrashed, all the while suffering in silence.

It is also a tradition of the celebration of a monarch throwing minted coins to the public! Good Friday is christened so because Jesus was nailed to the Cross that day on Mount Calvary and died. Holy Saturday so named was because Jesus was taken down, buried and lay quietly, while his followers and loved ones mourned his loss. Easter Sunday is the day of Revelation, when Jesus appears from the Tomb to his Disciples and reveals that he lives on. The Tomb is empty much to the astonishment of the guards and the disciples. So every year, this Holy Week is lived through to understand and relive the miracle and joy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Easter celebrations

Easter celebrations are as huge as the other Christian festival celebration of Christmas, which is the birth of Jesus Christ. Easter Bunnies, Easter Eggs and other Chocolate or almond delights are the joy of children and adults on Easter Sunday. Many Hymns, stories, songs and poems are written about Easter by the young and the old. Easter poems are delightful in that they seek to bring spiritual and innocent joy in spreading the good message of eternal life. It is the famous belief that Good does triumph over Evil and that eventually Death is conquered through the spirit.

The poem

Poems have fascinated everyone down the ages. From the Greeks to the Romans to everyone in the world, when Man discovered the rhythm of the word with the music of his soul – the Poem blossomed. Ballads, Epics, Sonnets, Odes, Lyrics, Idylls – the various genre of Poetry took form with the nature of the spirit that wrote the verse. The Poems rekindled the dying embers of anything it touched. Like Easter, Poems are celebrated for their quality of Resurrection – for they bring back to life that which appeared dead and forgotten. The most wonderful quality is that they allow their authors to live in the pages and our hearts forever more. Every time we read a poem, its author and that which the Poem is about, comes back to life and joy is experienced and relived.

This combination doubles the effect of Immortality. They relive the belief in the miracle of life ever-after, through re-creating the effect of resurrection. This double impact, no doubt, revives courage that Life survives and we can overcome for we are immortal, like the verse and like the spirit of Jesus Christ. Both come together to mystery of Faith. Both have revealed that they live forever and ever and so shall man. So shall all creatures in the Universe.

In reliving Easter Poem, one is transported to the 16th Century, the Period of Edmund Spenser, one of England greater Poets, who in Sonnet form, celebrates Easter. This Poem, sonnet no.68, deals with Easter and the Resurrection of Christ. It is an expression that through the death of Jesus Christ, sin is conquered and the human captivity is thus broken forever. It speaks of redemption of the soul through the blood of Jesus Christ and where we are urged by this great Poet to reciprocate the intensity of Christ.

Many great poets inspired by Easter, have celebrated the joy of resurrection through the immortal words of a Poem, more immortal than perhaps a book or story, because the verse is appealing, short and easy to read. It is closer to a readers heart and therefore much more effective.
