Carbohydrates form an essential part of out diet. Most of the energy that we get comes from carbohydrates. However these carbohydrates can also result in a lot of conditions if consumed in excess. Atkins Diet: This is one of the well-known diet plans in the market that focus on a low carbohydrate intake. They have a carbohydrate ladder, which aims at the amount of carbohydrates that a person can take depending on the body requirements and the glycemic load. The South Beach Diet: This is another type of diet that is a modification of the Atkins Diet. This diet does not remove all the carbohydrates but allows you to have a good carbohydrate diet and only eliminate the carbohydrates that are bad for the health. They would advise you not to eat butter of poultry or dark meat, as they are loaded with saturated fats that result in bad carbohydrates. However this is not advised by the Atkins diet.

Caveman Diet: They aim at reducing or removing the processed food from your diet. With their carbohydrate plan you can have any food excepting those that contain salts, sugar and seasoning. They also inhibit you from taking dairy products as they are mostly processed. However they allow you to have others like fish, meat, nuts, eggs, fruits and vegetables.

Health risks with low carbohydrate diet

Even though most people and nutritionist recommend a low carbohydrate diet it can cause harm to your body. These are considered as non-essential nutrients but still there are many risks that are related to such lowering of carbohydrates from the diet.

One of the major problems associated with a low carbohydrate diet is ketosis. This is because of the low glucose availability in the body. This results when the calorie intake falls to an amount as low as 20-30 grams.

Carbohydrates result in forming of glucose in the body, which is essential for providing energy in the body. You should not restrict yourself from carbohydrates but should make sure that you are having a balanced diet with all the essential and the non-essential nutrients included.

You should consult a dietician regarding your body requirements of the carbohydrate. The dietician would calculate the total amount of calories that you can have so that your body is not deprived of the nutrients. You should also be careful when you buy foodstuffs from the market. All the foodstuffs mention the amount of carbohydrates and calories that they have. Calculate and determine how much you can intake so that you would be able to monitor your carbohydrate diet in accordance to the nutritionists prescription.

You can maintain a balance even if you are on a carbohydrate diet by exercising. If you exercise and burn the fat and energy you would not be moving towards any sort of health problems. However you should also be careful about the type of carbohydrate that you are taking in. Check all the listed carbohydrates in your food and then consider having it.

What to take in a carbohydrate diet

You should be careful with the oil that you use to cook your food. You should not use oils that are rich In saturated fats. Make sure that you count the calories that the oil contains and then use it. It is also advised that you try and use olive oil or other such oils to cook your meal. You should also prefer lean meat in comparison to other meat. Also try and eat lot of fish in comparison to red meat. You can easily take in eggs, fish, meat, fruits, vegetables and nuts in your carbohydrate diet. Besides you should avoid having dark meat and saturated fats.

For a balanced carbohydrate diet you can have 6-10servings of pasta, cereal, rice or bread. You should try and include a lot of whole grain food in your diet rather than fats or sugars. Also try and include a lot of vegetables and fruits in your diet at least 3-5 servings. You can also include milk and yogurt or even cheese around 1-2 servings in a day and 2-3 servings of dried beans, poultry or nuts in your meal.

Cutting down carbohydrates completely from your diet would not make any sense so do not starve yourself and eat a balance diet. If you are facing any medical condition you should make sure that you consult a doctor or a dietician about the different foods that would suit you and which you can have without causing any complications. Make sure that you follow the right kind of carbohydrate diet so that you can have a healthy body and also stay away from any sort of medical complications.
