Lawn ornaments
It is not just plants and flowers that make a garden beautiful. It is also the shimmer and sparkle of different textures and surfaces among the colorful plants that adds to its beauty. Just like any other room in your house, you can add to the beauty and texture of your garden by placing various decorative objects all over the place. These decorative objects are what are usually referred to as "Lawn Ornaments". They can be used to attract attention, provide variation, give a theme to your garden or even express your personality. How many times have you been amused by a fawn peeping at you from beneath the roses or a garden gnome cheerfully standing guard under a blue spruce tree.
However it is very important that you plan out your activities before going about beautifying your garden. Look around your garden and think what is that you want to do. If possible work out a theme or a concept that you would like to give to it. Are there bare spots in the garden that looks like haphazardly notched off hair from a head? Or are there spots where too many plants are gasping for space? Are all the plants in your garden of similar height giving it a monotonous feel? Putting up lawn ornaments could not only solve the problem but also add to the beauty of your garden.
You could place a sculpture of a human form or a plastic flamingo to cover up vacant space. Garden gnomes are also popular options. But such items tend to attract attention towards them. So make sure that these are placed at spots where you would not want the visitors to focus on anything else. If you feel your garden needs variation in height, place a garden pillar and mount it with a small sculpture or a sundial or even a potted creeper that can entwine itself around the pillar as it grows. If there is any area in your garden where most plants are round and grow thick, you could place a birdbath to create some openness. Or you could place a small statue to give a visual variation yet not drawing attention away from the garden bed. On the other hand if most of the plants in that area are pointed shooting upwards, you could place a gazing ball or any other round sculpture.
It would also be a good idea to give a mysterious touch to your garden by tucking away some ornaments under the plants and letting them peep out. Paint them with some yoghurt so that moss grows on the surface making them blend perfectly with the surrounding. At a first glance, visitors may not even realize their existence amongst the flowerbeds. Children especially find these amusing.
But amongst all the lawn ornaments available, nothing beats the popularity and beauty of one that can double up as a water fountain. Just place it right in the middle of your garden in a clear spot, or place it between the low flowerbeds or let it flow like a stream in one corner. Place it any way you like, it surely is going to make your garden look more charming.
Some find working out in the garden and maintaining it to be a massive task better given to someone else. But for some, like my mother-in-law, there is nothing more refreshing than spending an hour or two every day in her garden, nurturing every plant, every corner, every ornament with tender love and affection. A well-kept well-decorated garden adds lot of beauty and charm to your home. You do not have to be rich to create a garden of your dreams. All it needs is unrestricted imagination and a taste for good things.
