speakers wireless
Come as big relievers to the users as it helps to get rid of the problems due to the numerous wires, which came with the conventional speakers, used to entangle each other and create a mess, and a headache. The wireless speakers also give more flexibility as far as its usage is concerned, particularly when they are used outdoors. As the usage of multi speaker home theatre systems are getting popular by the day, the utility value of wireless speakers are even more enhanced, as it provides easy installation of speakers in every room you want them to be in, without having to take the wires around the walls and other objects.
As they have built-in amplifier, the speakers should get power supply, for which batteries or the AC adapter could be used.
Types of speakers:
Wireless speakers can be broadly categorized according to the input signal type:
1) Infrared : infrared, beams a signal to the speakers and the output from the speaker is done according to the received signal. This is much like the working of a remote control of a television. The problem with the infrared type control is that there may be minor interruptions of sound. This is because, the infrared rays require a direct line of travel to the target, any hindrance in the way can block the signals from reaching the speakers.
2) Radio frequency : other category of wireless speakers use radio frequency waves for transmitting the signal and they can pass freely through objects, though some objects may interfere with the sound as it happens while using a cordless phone or while listening to a radio.
Available products:
Based upon the area of application and particular features available in them, wireless speakers can be classified as follows.
1) Wireless stereo speakers : for a real music buff, the perfect positioning of the speakers matters the most. it is for them, that the wireless stereo speakers are designed which can be placed effectively anywhere you want, given that they dont go beyond the range of the base unit ( device which transmits the signal), which is normally about 150 300 ft. It may also be noted that the range can differ with the environment. The radio waves travel much easier through thin walls which will enable the speaker to deliver high quality sound.
One of the popular products is the Acoustic Research AW871 wireless stereo speaker system which output a high quality sound which covers the whole range of frequencies, from deep bass to high treble. The system, priced at $180, includes a pair of speakers and a transmitter. Other famous products include Advent ADVW801 and SRS-RF90RK from Sony. For indoors, either an Advent AW870 or AW820 may be preferred.
2) Wireless surround sound speakers : Although with the wireless surround speakers only the rear speakers can be wireless, it is still a worthy product, if they can be kept as far as possible from the amplifier and therefore avoids the trouble of wire laying.
A home theater totally free of wires still remains as an unfulfilled dream, which is due partially to the fact that home theater system was developed primarily for those who cannot compromise on the quality of the image and audio for even a short period. The wireless systems so far developed cannot guarantee this.
Some of the DVD player units which come from wireless surround speakers are
a) Pioneer HTD-630DV , which has only its rear center speaker wireless, which limits its flexibility of usage as all the other speakers have to be connected through wires.
b) Sonys DAV-FR10W , use infrared technology and the output sound quality is comparable with that of the wired systems. Though a little expensive at around $1000, this system balances it through its performance.
c) Philips LX-3750W , priced at $500.
d) Samsung HT-DB390 , costing $400.
3) Wireless computer speakers : generally, all the wireless speakers are seen to be compatible with computers. However, there are not many popular brands which are specially made for computers. Hence, you have to do a bit of testing before you select one for your computer.
One of the dedicated wireless computer speakers brand is the iConcepts Wireless RF Speakers & Headphones package of Sakar International Inc. it works with Mac and Windows computers. The package includes 2 wireless computer speakers and a compact transmitter with integrated antenna which will work as an interface between the speakers and the PC. A pair of wireless headphones are also provided, free of cost. The cost of the package is $80.
4) Wireless outdoor speakers : they present the users with a convenient option when they want to listen to music while in their garden or during their outdoor plays or parties. Wireless outdoor speakers are good examples of how best a combination of high quality audio, design and convenience can be achieved. In addition to being weather proof, they have a reasonable transmission range, and there are some products which can work on batteries. Some of the products worth trying include, AW811 from Acoustic Research which works on 900MHz wireless technology. It is water resistant which makes it adequate for outdoor use together with places like the kitchens and bathrooms where there the humidity will be higher than normal. When properly installed and switched on, it outputs high quality sound which spreads multi directionally. The AW811 works very well with TVs, DVD players, A/V receivers, mp3 players and computers. It works on rechargeable batteries as well as with AC power.
