Building Websites with Joomla 1.5
Joomla 1.5 has made an extraordinary leap in usability from Joomla 1.0. In our opinion, it is much easier to use than its predecessor. However, we all have backgrounds in web development and design, so that probably means we take certain things for granted. Lots of people (us included) sometimes just want to have a good book to introduce them and guide them when something is not so clear. And this is where we are suggesting the book Building Websites with Joomla! 1.5 .
Once again we have a book from Packt Publishing which is a good reference book for Joomla users. It starts with a good intro and terms and conventions used in the book and then covers most topics in the lifetime of developing a website using Joomla including:
This book goes into detail, going down to describing what each choice does, and what the various options are. It gives example to make understanding things easier, and suggests ways and means to achieve what you need. A chapter which we particularly liked is Chapter 6 which explains in detail the most essential backend administration functions. The Content menu chapter also explains well the options for your content items in Joomla. The Components and Extensions chapter also explain well what each default Joomla component does, and then a number of 3rd party components are suggested which are a few must have Joomla components. After explaing what is available, the book goes into how to create your own cool template, how to go about creating a template from scratch or how to customize an existing template. The last chapters contains ways and means of really pimping up your Joomla site to achieve the most of it. In a nut shell, we recommend this book for people who want to get the most out of their Joomla 1.5 website!
