#18 - Remove Author names, created and modified date

Written by, Created Date and Time, Modified Date and Time. Many users want to remove this fields asap. Fortunately, this is very easy to do.

Joomla 1.5

This is a settings in the Articles Parameters function. Go to Content > Article Manager, and click on Parameters icon (top right near Help Icon), from here you can find a number of settings, including Created, Modified, etc. Please note that if you use Use Global, this will only apply for new content which is added (not for your current articles). Current articles would have to be updated individually.

Joomla 1.0

Simple go to Site > Global Confiuration (Content tab), and Turn off / on the checkboxes found in this page according to your requirements. Once you have customised these parameters to suit your needs you should save your configuration file, and these settings are then applied.

Also recommended switching off is the PDF icon, because there are several known problems with this, and usually Google also tries to index the pdf documents

The image below shows the fields which determine whether this content is switched on or off.

After a bit of frantic looking, I found this stuff: it has moved in Joomla 1.5.
It's now under Content > Article Manager > Parameters.

Thanks for your

Where are the content parameters? They are not in the global configuration
anymore.
Joomla! 1.5 provides component specific settings, which are not set in
the global configuration, but in each component itself. For this, there is a
button called "Preferences" in the toolbar of the components, when this
feature is available.

I switched off setting X in the global preferences, but
the author/readmore/something is still shown in the article. Can I only switch
this off in each article seperately?
In Joomla! 1.5 the parameters can be
overwritten by higher ranking parameters. In case a parameter is not set, the
global parameters or preferences of the component take effect, then the
parameters set in the menu item overwrite these global parameters, which then
can be overwritten by the article parameters. If you set the authorname to not
show in the article, it will not be shown, regardless what you select in the
preferenc...

The sample data which installs with Joomla 1.5 overrides the global
configuration for the front page.. I was just wrestling with this.

The issue is
that all of the global configuration settings are overridden for the Front Page
in the sample data. You can fix this by doing (from the administration
home):
->Menus->MenuManager
open settings for the main menu and click on the
Home link.
Expand the Parameters Component section and change all of the
settings you want back to "Global Configuration" or whatever you want
them set to.

Cheers
Sam

Thanks for putting that together, I was having a lot of trouble finding where
these settings were located. Can't believe I didn't notice the button there.
Ric Crouch  - Only older articles are affected   |70.185.161.xxx |2009-01-14 00:37:31
Articles published before making this setting are not affected. There are two
workarounds:

1) Set the appropriate parameters on each affected article,
or,

2) Unpublish and republish the affected articles.

Personally, I prefer
the second option, since if you later change your mind about showing that data,
it's relatively consistent across all articles.

If using Joomla 1.5 and youo installed "sample data" in your
installation, THEN Sam W's explanation is correct and was necessary for me

You should be able to use FTP software to overwrite the original template with
your changes.

Following up on SamW's note...

I installed the sample data and got the Author,
Date Updated, etc. information to obey the "Use Global" setting in most
cases (Global set to "hide" for everything in my case), but then in
sometimes (e.g., when I displayed articles in the blog format), they would
reappear.

The thing that finally fixed it was when I went into every single
sample menu item and changed the options to "Use Global" -- even for
menus that were not enabled. So, somewhere (apparently) my new articles were
somehow associated with one of the sample menus when I displayed the items
directly (e.g., didn't access them through then menu).

This seems really
strange behavior to me, but it solved the problem I was having. Now all of my
articles display with the global settings when I choose "Use Global"
(unless the particular menu actually being used and displayed overrides the
article-level...
