#24 - Quickly change your template from the frontend

Its quite easy to quickly change your the view of Joomla through a template in the backend. And through the frontend, you can use the Template Chooser.

However, what if you just want to test a template, quickly and easily throught the frontend? Maybe you want your users to view a preview of your new template. Or maybe you want to show someone a new template that you are designing.

Joomla 1.0

What you need to do is insert the following web address: http://www.dart-creations.com/index.php?jos_change_template=rhuk_solarflare_ii

So use the following http://www.yoursite.com/index.php?jos_change_template

Just add jos_change_template=<your template name> to your site to do this on your site. Obviously the name of the template must exist in the backend!

Joomla 1.5

This also works on Joomla 1.5, instead of using jos_change_template you need to just use template e.g. http://joomla15demo.dart-creations.com/index.php?template=beez

If you want to go back to the original DART Creations template click here: http://www.dart-creations.com/index.php?jos_change_template=ja_pollux

Great tip. It does change the template. However, if I select another menu
item, it defaults back to the original template. It doesn't
"stick".

How is this an advantage over the template chooser?

I
appreciate these ideas...keep them coming!

Funny you say that, it doesn't change here until you click back on the original
template link...

Awesome tip dude! The lousy chooser module sets a 10min cookie which kills the
chance for a user keeping the style he/she likes for any length of time.

I spoke too soon. As I logged into my site today, it went right back to the
default. Is there anything or anyway to set a cookie to a visitor's template
choice?
