#27 - Submit content from the frontend

One of the most frequent questions asked in the Joomla forums, especially with today's content moving towards social content, is how to enable users to submit articles from the Joomla front end. By default Joomla only allows you to submit news items, however a nice and free component adds the much needed functionality of allowing your users to submit their own articles to your joomla website - all from the frontend.

JA Submit

The JA Submit component is one of those must have components. It quickly turns your site from a publisher only, to a social content site where anyone who is registered can submit content, with your only requirement from the publisher being the approval of this content.

It also offers a number of features such as

  • resizing of images,
  • WYSIWYG editor support,
  • multi-language support,
  • submission to multiple sections and lots of other great options.

So if you want to quickly enable content submission for your website's users, JA Submit is the way to go. And the best thing? Its completely free!

Re: "enable users to submit articles from the Joomla front end. By default
Joomla only allows you to submit news items"

This is confusing to me. I
am getting to know Joomla pretty well but I have never seen a distinction
between "news" and "articles" on the backend. I did a glossary
search for "articles" in version 1.0.13 at Joomla.org and it comes up
with:

Article
The new name for Content Item under Joomla! 1.5.x versions.

Unless this extension is for version 1.5, I do not understand the difference
between "article" and "news". Of course I am still in the
learning phase so help me out if needed!

Thanks,
Rick

Rick, the article above applies to Joomla 1.0.x, which only allows the
submission of news items and does not allow submission of any other kinds of
articles (from the Front End).

More articles will eventually be written to
cater for 1.5

I would appreciate if you could tell me if it is worth waiting, or should I
start coding ;-) ?

Best to ask at the Joomlart Forums. You'd get a better answer than here

This component doesn't work for Joomla 1.5
Do you have another component that
work in Joomla 1.5?
