This simple question is asked over and over again on the Joomla forums by newbies. The most popular question would be, how do I change from two columns to one column display.
Understanding the FrontPage component
The Joomla frontpage is a component which allows you to control how your homepage looks. It is slightly different from standard components in the fact that its configuration is not done via the Components menu. Instead you need to find the Home link in your main menu. In a default installation the Home points to the frontpage component.
To customise the look and feel of the frontpage you need to edit the Parameters of the Home menu item link. Therefore go to Menu > mainmenu > and click on the Home link.
#Leading - This parameter determines the number of full width articles to display. Articles displayed in the Leading will have the Intro text displayed. This setting overrides the columns parameter i.e. if you have decided to have 2 columns and 1 items in the leading intro you will have a layout as follows:
Columns - the columns determines how many columns will feature in each row. If you want more than a single column, set the number of columns here.
#Intro - the number of articles whose Intro text will be displayed (excludes the number of items in the Leading parameter).
#Links - the number of links to articles to display (excludes the number of items in the Leading and Intro parameters). Items showed in the Links section will feature just the title of the article (with no Intro text displayed).
Joomla 1.5 - Changing the Title (Welcome to the FrontPage)
Hi mate, thanks for the help. I'm still amazed at how flexible Joomla is. Although I'd prefer non-tabled layouts. 1.5 Should be great!

in joomla 1.5 a two-column frontpage item sequence goes like this (to take one example)
ist article(lead)
2nd 5th
3rd 6th
4th 7th
Is there a fix to do row-pairs instead?
e.g.
2nd 3rd etc

I would like to change the title of the front page. It's currently what joomla's default is "Welcome to the front page". I went to the home button, but there's no title to change in the parameters on the side.
Thanks

Hey there.
I've got a couple of links from joomla front page to some articles but when i want to look at each article it displays the article within the mainbody of the front page, rather than showing the article on its own?
Is this a built-in characteristic? or is it just my site? or is it just me? or am i crazy?

I also added a link to this article at the bottom of the page.
Hope this helps

For some reason when I change page title and set to show my joomla looks like it saves but it changes nothing. I still have "Home" on my frontpage. Any tips why the Page Title is not saving or being acknowledged?

This should be a link in one of your menus (usually the Home menu).

Yes you can. For J1.5 you just need to create a link to the weblinks component and set is the Default link. For J1.0 you need to make sure that the first link in the main menu is set to the weblinks component.

Thanks for the tip, however it's interesting that everyone wonders how stupid they were and how 'easy' it was, when in fact this a clear case of bad design.
You confirm it yourself:
"This simple question is asked over and over again on the Joomla forums by newbies. "
If it's asked so much, maybe the problem is with the system, not the user.
Just my 2c.

So, I have re-set the columns to 1. I've even increased the 'leading' number to 5. Yet, Joomla still formats a second Front Page Article as if there were 2 columns. This is extremely frustrating as it makes the article far too narrow to fit the text and graphic I want.

Interestingly, the problem only arises in Firefox, not in IE. I suppose I can live with that.

Yes... but my problem is that I want to display a slideshow using the whole with, and before all I tried it seems it is possible only in a module, not in a content.. so my "Issue" is not solved as when set up to 1 colum and 0 for the rest items it definetly shows 1 colum but with the normal narrow size...
I doubt this can be done using the frontpage component. However, you should be able to tweak your template to be able to come up with something similar to that.
Alternatively ask at the Joomla forums, they might be able to guide you better on this.
