Joomla 1.0 vs Joomla 1.5

This used to be a question which was quite difficult to answer when Joomla 1.5 came out. Today, we recommend a very different answer than our original answer.

Joomla 1.5 is today a tried, tested and proven technology. Its had its ups and (a few) downs. However, Joomla 1.5 has stood the test of time, and it has been gaining in popularity and momentum since its release. The increase of usage in Joomla has been astonishing to say the least, today there are millions of websites and users using Joomla. Joomla 1.5(+) is the future ...

Recent announcements by the Joomla team have stated that support for Joomla 1.0.x will be stopped around June 2009, which means that you should start thinking right now of upgrading your Joomla 1.0 website to Joomla 1.5 if you still haven't.

If you are wondering whether to choose Joomla 1.0 or Joomla 1.5, there is no doubt of your choice. You MUST go for Joomla 1.5. There are very few things which Joomla 1.0 can do better than Joomla 1.5. The only excuse which you can have is if there any components which are not supported by Joomla 1.5. Fortunately, most components are available for Joomla 1.5, if not in native mode, at least in Legacy mode.

Joomla 1.0 vs Joomla 1.5? Definetely Joomla 1.5!

There will be some small bugs in Joomla 1.5, however if there is a stable
version out, that means most of them would not affect 90% of users.

The
problems you are probably experiencing are not with Joomla itself, but with 3rd
party plugins which are not yet compatible. Your decisions should be this. How
many 3rd party components do you need for your site? If you need a lot, then go
for Joomla 1.0.x, if your site does not need 3rd party components, go for 1.5

There are more available plugins for Joomla 1.0.x, since its been around for
much longer. If I were you, I would install them both, and see which modules you
like and test them on both, so you see if they work correctly.

Also, if you
need a great looking site, take a look at the Free Joomla Templates article to
the left, and browse to Professional Joomla Templates. Joomlart have great
looking templates, and I strongly recommend you go for one of those.

DART Creations  - Joomla 1.5   |217.145.5.xxx |2008-03-17 13:22:49
Yes, if the module is strictly necessary for your site, then go with Joomla
1.0.x. This is what we recommend if you need lots of 3rd party functionality.

asma,

The JSN ImageShow module allows you to make flash intros from pictures
directly within Joomla. Otherwise, you can just design the flash intro in Flash
and implement it in the template or the front page.

It s the best blogging module
for Joomla out there.

I am still trying to figure out why should I switch to 1.5.
I don't care for the
small modifications in 1.5 when it comes to installing extensions.
I use 1.0 for
the extension variety available. Always along with sh404sef.
Is 1.5 more stable,
more compatible with xHTML, or what other advantages are there?
