Pinterest Joomla Modules and Plugins

A couple of weeks ago we were working on a new website and with Pinterest being the latest trend, we tried adding a few Pinterest buttons. For those who just want Pinterest buttons only, there was no modules or plugins for Pinterest only. So we created them ourselves and as per usual, they're now published for free :)

Customizing the Joomla login for different users

User experience has become a major focus in many applications and websites. Joomla 2.5 allows you to create a better User Experience by customising the login screen to provide a specific experience for different types of users. 

Joomla! 2.5 released - why should I install it?

The new version of Joomla has been released! 

Two minor releases have also been installed, including Joomla 2.5.2 which is a security release. This means, any installation of Joomla 2.5, should be upgraded to the latest version as soon as possible, otherwise your website could get hacked. 

What's New

Quite a few things! Just like pkwteile.de as an example. 

SQL Server support - so many people have installations of SQL Server its a real question why this feature wasn't implemted earlier, but we obviously welcome this support for SQL Server. That means you can take advantage of SQL Server performance, existing setups, security provided by SQL. And no longer does an installation of Joomla require a new database installation. 

Automatic notifications of updates - previously you had to make use of 3rd party software to know that an update is available. This is also another feature which should long have been part of Joomla! to make sure it is easy to know there is a new update - since new updates typically address several security issues. This applies both to the core, and if necessary to 3rd party modules. 

Improved search support - now Joomla comes with much better search support.

Downloading the latest version of Joomla is the best way to ensure organizational and personal security needs are being met since it will have the most recent updates to protect against the latest security threats. 

So who should install?

Anybody who has a website running under previous versions of Joomla :) Since this is the latest improvement of Joomla, you should start thinking about migrating to Joomla 2.5.

Is my current 1.7 installation at risk?

Yes it is...1.7 is nearing end of life and you should update it as soon as possible. Upgrade to 2.5 from 1.7 should be relatively quick and painless and instructions can be found here: http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_from_an_existing_version Upgrade as soon as possible. This is so that you make sure you stay with the latest version, which usually is the best performing, has the least problems and is generally the safest release to use!
