Joomla! 2.5 Beta 1 released - should I install it?
So the new version of Joomla has been released, and with it comes a flurry of questions. Should I upgrade now? What will this offer me? How long will my installation of 1.7 last? Why is there so many versions to chose from?
As with all Beta software released, this version of the software should not be installed on new and live websites. This is because by its very nature, a beta means that the product has not been tested enough to be released to the public for general use. It means that some problems in joomla still exist and this period is there to find these problems and fix them.

So who should install?
Anybody who has a website which can afford to have some small problems and who is willing to try to find and describe and problems they encounter, all for the good of the general Joomla community.
Is my current 1.7 installation at risk?
No it is not...1.7 is a stable version which is fully supported and for which there will be an easy upgrade path to joomla 2.5 when it is released. What you should ensure is that, once joomla 2.5 goes live, you upgrade to 2.5 as soon as possible.
This is so that you make sure you stay with the latest version, which usually is the best performing, has the least problems and is generally the safest release to use!
